Poverty & Wealth

I was consulting with a feedyard, the manager was gone and I was working at his desk. The office was spacious, very well appointed with a couch and small conference table at the far end.

Three computers were within arms reach on my right. Two of them were reporting the commodity markets tick by tick and the third provided management information about the yard as it was happening.

The door to the executive bathroom was a few feet from the desk on my left. Behind me was a large book case reaching from the built in credenza to the ceiling. Tucked in among the professional materials was a series of pictures spanning the life time of a very attractive young lady, now in her late teens.

The desk top was covered with stacks of contracts, and other current issues that were needed to keep the business in order. On the right was a 3 X 5 spiral flip chart type thing. It was tucked in behind some other material and only visible to the person sitting in the manager's chair. As the pages on the chart were flipped it had a thought for each day. Written on the back was a message "To Daddy, from ".

The message for this day was, "Poverty is a life without Jesus, but close friendship with Him is incalculable wealth".

As I worked I thought about this feedyard manager that had customers in 20+ states, directed a multi-million dollar corporation, and yet measured his wealth in spiritual terms.

Personal wealth, happiness, lasting joy, and health are a condition of the soul, being broke or having plenty of money is a temporary situation.

I went home that day rejoicing in wealth, happy to be listed among those who Jesus calls friend.

It is not hard to be wealthy, but getting and keeping lots of money requires lots of knowledge and hard work.
