The Great Exchange!
We consummated the business deal we'd been working on for months. Both parties finally agreed on a price where we were comfortable. Business deals must be equitable or there could be no commerce.
God's business deals amaze me!
His law says the wages of sin is eternal death. And just as we know that a baby falls down before he learns to walk, God knows that humans will break His law and die.
Before I was born God sent His Son to earth and God says His son’s death on the cross paid my ‘wages of sin’. In II Corinthians 5.12 it says, "For God took the sinless Christ and poured into Him our sins." To me that seems like a risky business decision on God’s part. He had; no collateral, no contract, and no indication of my interest! To top it off He said everyone can have full payment of the ‘wages of sin’, just for asking – nothing more, just ask.
When I understood the terms of the ‘deal’ God was offering I took it! I asked!
The verse goes on to say, "Then, in exchange, He poured God's goodness into us!". Jesus came to pay a debt he didn’t owe and I had a debt I could not pay!
Now when God looks at me He sees a forgiven sinner, my ‘wages for sin’ is paid. I am welcome in His presence, because I have His goodness poured into me. When He looks at me He does not see my sin, but instead He sees His goodness!
God made the offer and I accepted its terms!
THE GREAT EXCHANGE - my sin for His goodness, I received so much for so little! A deal like that is reason to have a party, invite my friends and tell them about my bargain and show them how they can have the same deal! It won’t wear out, it won’t rust away, there is enough for everybody and it will last for ever!
P.S. People never get tired of telling about a bargain purchase, and forgiven people never get tired of telling about their eternal bargain or hearing about how others discovered the GREAT EXCHANGE. If you care to share about your Great Exchange, I'd love to hear about it.
