Running out of Sunsets

Running out of Sunsets

Baxter Black is a DVM in the Southwest that has turned from veterinarian to self-styled poet and philosopher. I recently listened to one of his poems describing an old cowboy that had lived an illustrative life but now he was 'running out of sunsets'.

In reality each of us are 'running out of sunsets'. Life on this earth is a terminal case. As the number of sunsets we have left become smaller their importance gets bigger. We begin to realize we won't get another chance, we must get it right the first time around.

It is important who we look to for our pattern of life, our final authority. I was recently reading a copy of Good News For Modern Man and found an idea that has riveted my attention, I quote:

"In the past God spoke to our ancestors many times and in many ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us through His Son.
He is the one through whom God created the universe and the One He has chosen to possess all things at the end.
He reflects the brightness of God's glory and is the exact likeness of God's own being, sustaining the universe through His powerful word.
After achieving the forgiveness for the sins of mankind He sat down in heaven, at the right side of God the supreme power".

As I consider running out of sunsets someday, it gives me cause to reflect more seriously on the meaning of life. The quote says in these last days God has spoken to me through His Son. I have determined to give that idea more attention ... I'll share more about that in other blogs.

Righteous Ramblings, Ray! Love it!

As I was pondering your quote of Heb. 1, I was drawn to the last chapter, verse 8: "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever"!

Though we have finite sunsets during which we can make much of Him, we have all of eternity to praise the creator of sunsets! How awesome is that?! Now, let's go round up some more worshippers of another Son. Best part of that Son was His Son Rise, Amen?!

God bless you, dear brother. Hugs to you and your bride,
